Maine Blocks Christmas Day Sales

It's hard to believe (Bah, Humbug!), but Maine has centuries old Blue Laws still on the books forcing  stores over 5,000 square feet in size to close on Christmas Day. As recently as 1990 department stores legally had to close their doors on Sunday as well. Attempts earlier this year to overturn these antiquated laws were unsuccessful. However, pharmacies and LL Bean are allowed to stay open.
