Ontario, Canada - Closed by Law on Christmas

In Canada's Province of Ontario, most retail businesses with over 3 employees or 2,400 square feet of floorspace are required to close on Christmas Day by the Retail Business Holiday Act. Exceptions are made for certain types of businesses such as car rentals, pharmacies, laundromats and nurseries, which are allowed to be open on Christmas and other statutory holidays. Businesses that are closed on Christmas are still required to pay employees for the day regardless, subject to special conditions set out by law.
